Boeing 777-300ERSF Hits Service with Kalitta Air

AerCap delivered the first Boeing 777-300ERSF freighters to Kalitta Air in mid-September 2025, marking the type’s entry into global service.

AerCap Cargo handed over two Boeing 777-300ERSF passenger-to-freighter (P2F) conversions to US operator Kalitta Air at Oscoda, Michigan on September 12 and 13, 2025. The pair, which include the program prototype, are the first of seven aircraft on order and will begin replacing Kalitta’s ageing Boeing 747 freighter fleet.

The 777-300ERSF has been certified by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Israel’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAAI). AerCap and Kalitta highlight a 100-tonne payload capability and an expected roughly 20% reduction in CO2 emissions versus older freighter types, a meaningful efficiency gain for long-haul cargo operations.

What the Boeing 777-300ERSF brings

Kalitta Air plans to put the new freighters into revenue service in early October 2025. The move underscores a broader industry trend of modernising fleets with converted widebodies that offer higher payload and lower fuel burn per tonne.

  • Boeing 777-300ERSF: 100-tonne payload, FAA & CAAI certified, and about 20% lower CO2 emissions compared with Kalitta’s older 747 freighters.
  • Delivery dates: September 12 and 13, 2025 at Oscoda, Michigan (US).
  • Order book: Seven 777-300ERSF conversions are on order from AerCap; the first two include the program prototype.

The introduction of the 777-300ERSF is significant for cargo operators looking to cut operating costs and emissions while maintaining long-range, high-capacity capability. Kalitta’s transition away from 747s toward more modern twin‑engine freighters reflects both market demand and tight capacity on intercontinental routes.
