Turkish Airlines Boeing order accelerates a major fleet push toward 800 aircraft.
Turkish Airlines has unveiled a landmark commitment to buy up to 225 Boeing jets, a package that includes 35 Boeing 787-9s, 15 Boeing 787-10s and as many as 150 737 MAX narrowbodies. The announcement follows high-level discussions between Turkish and U.S. officials and is being marketed as the carrier’s largest single-aisle Boeing deal to date.
The order sits within a broader strategy to expand the airline’s fleet to 800 aircraft by 2033. Turkish Airlines currently operates a mixed fleet of 389 aircraft; adding these Boeing types would significantly increase its long-haul widebody capacity and refresh its narrowbody fleet. Final engine selection for the 737 MAX tranche remains pending, so exact model/engine pairings are not yet public.
For Boeing, the deal would boost backlog and support long-term production planning across both widebody and single-aisle lines. For Turkish Airlines, the mix of 787-9 and 787-10 Dreamliners plus numerous 737 MAX jets is intended to sharpen Istanbul’s position as a global connecting hub and to power network growth into Europe, the Middle East and beyond. The move also signals renewed competition between Boeing and Airbus for market share in the region.
The agreement is expected to roughly double Turkish Airlines’ Boeing-operated fleet once deliveries are completed, though a delivery schedule and exact timelines depend on production slots and the pending engine decision for the MAX family. Observers say the order will reverberate across leasing markets, supplier chains and Airbus–Boeing competitive dynamics in Europe and the Middle East.
