Lufthansa 787-9 Gets 100th Anniversary Livery

Lufthansa 787-9 wears a dark‑blue centenary paintjob with a white flying crane and a bold “100” motif to mark the airline’s 100th anniversary.

The Boeing 787-9, registered D-ABPU, is being finished with Lufthansa’s new Allegris cabin at Boeing’s Charleston, South Carolina plant and is scheduled for delivery in November 2025. The airline plans to put the Dreamliner into service from Frankfurt in December 2025.

The special livery pairs modern Dreamliner technology with a clear nod to Lufthansa’s past: the white flying crane and the prominent “100” motif harken back to the original Deutsche Luft Hansa founded in 1926, even though the current Lufthansa Group company dates from 1953. The design is meant to bridge heritage and the carrier’s next-generation fleet plans.

Lufthansa 787-9 centenary livery and fleet context

The rollout underlines Lufthansa’s ongoing fleet modernization as it takes delivery of new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. The Allegris cabin — Lufthansa’s new premium cabin product name — will be installed before the aircraft leaves Charleston, offering the carrier a refreshed onboard experience for long-haul routes operating from its Frankfurt (FRA) hub.

  • What to know: Lufthansa 787-9 (D-ABPU), Allegris cabin, delivery November 2025, entry into service December 2025.

Brand and livery choices like this are increasingly common as airlines use visual identity to celebrate milestones and make new narrow‑ and widebody aircraft stand out on the ramp. For passengers, a special paintjob is an easy, shareable moment — and for Lufthansa it’s a public-facing way to link the present fleet to almost a century of German airline history.

Operational details such as the first commercial route or any flight numbers have not been released yet; the airline has confirmed only the registration, the Charleston completion site, and the November–December 2025 timeframe for delivery and entry into service.
