Boeing 747 freighter crash at Hong Kong International Airport on October 20, 2025, killed two airport workers.
The aircraft involved was a Boeing 747-400F freighter operated by Emirates SkyCargo (Emirates, EK) and owned by ACT Airlines. Preliminary data released by investigators shows the jet veered left at about 90 knots after what was described as a normal approach, then ran off the runway and came to rest in water.
Four crew members on board survived the accident; tragically, a patrol vehicle on airport property was struck, and two airport workers were killed. The freighter was destroyed when it stopped in the water at the runway end.
The incident occurred on October 20, 2025, at Hong Kong International Airport. Aircraft type and operator details are confirmed: a Boeing 747-400F freighter under Emirates SkyCargo operation and ACT Airlines ownership. Local aviation authorities have opened an investigation; the exact sequence and causal factors are still under review.
Emergency responders and airport teams secured the scene and provided medical assistance. Airfield operations were affected while recovery and investigation work proceeded. At this stage, investigators are examining flight data, crew statements and airport surface operations to determine why the aircraft left the runway.
Safety oversight agencies typically publish interim findings once key data — including flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder information — are analysed. Families of the deceased are being notified and supported by airport authorities; the investigation will aim to prevent similar events in future.
