Jeppesen ForeFlight sale closes at $10.55B

Boeing completed the Jeppesen ForeFlight sale on November 3, 2025, transferring operations to private equity firm Thoma Bravo for $10.55 billion.

The Jeppesen ForeFlight sale was finalised on November 3, 2025, when Boeing completed the $10.55 billion divestiture of navigation and flight-planning units Jeppesen and ForeFlight plus AerData and OzRunways to Thoma Bravo. The buyer will operate the combined business as a standalone company named Jeppesen ForeFlight, with headquarters in Denver and San Francisco.

Thoma Bravo, a US-based private equity firm, takes control of the software and data assets while roughly 3,900 employees transition from Boeing to the new entity. Boeing retains a subset of its digital offerings: Boeing Global Services (BGS) will continue to manage fleet maintenance and diagnostics tools that support airline operations.

What changed in the deal

The sale consolidates mapping, navigation, flight-planning and maintenance-data tools under one commercial owner. Boeing’s move narrows its focus on aircraft manufacturing and certain in-house digital services while allowing Jeppesen ForeFlight to operate independently and pursue product development.

  • Assets sold: Jeppesen, ForeFlight, AerData and OzRunways — the core of the Jeppesen ForeFlight sale.
  • Buyer: Thoma Bravo (private equity).
  • Employees: ~3,900 staff moved to the new company; HQ in Denver and San Francisco.

Industry watchers note the carve-out could speed product innovation for pilots and operators because an independent Jeppesen ForeFlight can prioritize commercial software development without integration into Boeing’s broader manufacturing business. Regulators cleared the deal before the November close, allowing an immediate transfer of operations and staff.

For airlines and flight departments, the change of ownership should be largely operationally seamless in the near term; contracts, subscriptions and service levels will be managed by the new Jeppesen ForeFlight company, while Boeing Global Services continues to provide select maintenance and diagnostics platforms.
