Aeralis Prestwick: the British startup has chosen Prestwick Airport as the production base for its modular jet.
On July 23, 2025 Aeralis confirmed that Prestwick International Airport in Ayrshire, Scotland will host manufacturing, assembly and flight testing for its modular jet platform. The design is intended to serve both military and commercial roles, and the move signals a step toward scaling from prototype to production.
The facility at Prestwick will be used for final assembly and system integration rather than initial design work, the company said. Aeralis says the site will help accelerate testing cycles and localize supply-chain activity in the west of Scotland, with production ramp-up planned over the coming years.
Executives framed the decision as a win for the region’s aerospace ecosystem. While Aeralis did not disclose employment totals in the July 23 announcement, the firm expects new jobs across manufacturing, engineering and test operations. Local suppliers and sub-contractors are likely to be engaged as the program moves from development into repeatable production.
The modular jet concept is built around flexibility — common core components that can be configured for different missions — which appeals to defense buyers and commercial operators looking to reduce lifecycle costs. Locating assembly and testing in the UK also ties into broader efforts to bolster domestic aerospace capabilities after years of consolidation across the sector.
For Prestwick Airport, hosting Aeralis production reinforces its role as a manufacturing and maintenance hub in Ayrshire. The announcement may also attract further aerospace investment to the region as Aeralis transitions from prototypes to series production.
