Lufthansa confirms a €1.2 billion purchase of 15 Airbus A350-1000s to modernize its long‑haul fleet.
The Lufthansa A350-1000 order was finalized on November 17, 2025: Lufthansa Group (IATA: LH, ICAO: DLH) signed for 15 Airbus A350-1000 widebodies in a deal worth about €1.2 billion, with first deliveries scheduled to begin in 2027. The airline says the move is part of a targeted fleet renewal to boost efficiency and passenger experience.
The airline has linked the order to its sustainability targets, aiming to reduce per-seat CO2 emissions by 30% by 2030 compared with older equipment. The A350-1000 — a new-generation, twin‑engine long‑haul jet — offers better fuel burn and lower emissions per seat than the four‑engine types it will replace.
For passengers, the A350-1000 brings quieter cabins, higher humidity and longer-range routes with fewer stops. For operations, twin-engine ETOPS (Extended-range Twin-engine Operations) capable aircraft like the A350-1000 lower fuel use and maintenance costs compared with older four-engine aircraft. Lufthansa’s announcement underscores ongoing demand among European carriers for next‑generation widebodies that balance range, comfort and sustainability.
Strategically, the purchase strengthens Airbus’s foothold in the premium long‑haul segment while giving Lufthansa (LH/DLH) a cleaner, more efficient platform for intercontinental services. Deliveries starting in 2027 will let the group phase in the A350-1000s as part of broader modernization and network plans without abrupt capacity shocks.
