Paris flight delays: thunderstorms disrupt CDG & Orly

DGAC warns travellers that severe thunderstorms on November 9–10 could cause major disruptions at Paris airports.

The Direction Générale de l’Aviation Civile (DGAC) issued a weather NOTAM (Notice to Air Missions) advising airlines and passengers that strong thunderstorms forecast for November 9–10 may lead to Paris flight delays, diversions and extended ground holds at Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) and Orly (ORY).

Air Traffic Control (ATC) has told carriers to expect rerouting and flow-management measures; safety will be prioritised over punctuality. Airlines are preparing for possible diversion of incoming flights and longer turnaround times on the ground, which can cascade into knock-on delays across networks.

What travellers should know about Paris flight delays

If you have a flight into or out of CDG or ORY during the forecast window, check your flight status with the operating carrier before leaving for the airport. Expect longer wait times at gates and for baggage; some flights may be rebooked, delayed or diverted depending on the storm’s severity and ATC restrictions.

  • Before you travel: verify your booking and real-time status with the airline or official airport channels.
  • At the airport: allow extra time for security and check-in if your flight remains scheduled.
  • If delayed: ask your airline about rebooking, lounges, or accommodation options if disruptions extend overnight.

Operationally, airports may implement ground stops or slots management to preserve safety and runway capacity. That means even on-time departures elsewhere can be affected if aircraft, crews or slots are constrained by earlier disruptions. For some carriers, contingency plans include rerouting to nearby airports or holding patterns until conditions improve.

Passengers should prioritise direct confirmation from their airline for specifics such as flight number, IATA/ICAO codes and rebooking rules. Keep travel documents and contact details handy, and consider signing up for airline alerts. Be prepared for delays that could persist through Monday, and follow instructions from airport staff and official DGAC updates.
