RAF Typhoons Estonia deployment announced 6 November 2025 as the UK sends Eurofighter Typhoon jets to Ämari Air Base to bolster NATO Baltic Air Policing.
The UK Ministry of Defence confirmed on November 6, 2025, that additional Royal Air Force (RAF) Eurofighter Typhoon multi-role fighters will operate from Ämari Air Base in Estonia as part of NATO’s Baltic Air Policing mission. The move responds to reported increases in Russian military activity near allied airspace and aims to strengthen deterrence on NATO’s eastern flank.
The deployment places Typhoons on quick reaction alert (QRA) to provide scramble capability and air sovereignty patrols over Baltic airspace. Operating under NATO command, the jets will support routine identification and escort tasks, and enhance interoperability with allied units already contributing to the Baltic Air Policing rotation.
While the MoD did not release exact squadron or tail numbers, the statement underlines the UK’s continued commitment to collective defence alongside NATO partners. The Eurofighter Typhoon — a twin-engine, canard-delta wing fighter — remains a backbone asset for high-readiness air policing tasks.
The presence of RAF aircraft at Ämari signals a short-notice boost to NATO’s forward posture rather than a permanent basing decision. Analysts say such deployments are intended to reassure Baltic allies and signal unity without escalating to sustained force buildup.
