Safran & Acumen Unveil Room FX Business Seat

Safran and Acumen introduced the Room FX business-class seat on October 18, promising a fresh take on widebody comfort.

Safran Seats and UK design studio Acumen Design unveiled the new Room FX seat at a London industry event on October 18. The next-generation product targets long-haul widebody fleets and aims to combine privacy, mood lighting and sustainable materials in a package for business travelers.

Room FX: what to expect

The seat will debut installed on All Nippon Airways’ Boeing 787-9 (ANA, IATA: NH, ICAO: ANA), marking a notable launch operator partnership. Key cabin features highlighted by the designers include full-height privacy doors, customizable lighting scenarios and forward-thinking materials chosen for lower environmental impact.

Safran and Acumen say Room FX is designed for modular installation across different widebody cabins, letting airlines tailor layout and finishes without compromising passenger space. The companies also emphasized ergonomics for sleeping and working — from wide recline to integrated storage — though exact seat maps and cabin counts will be set by each airline customer.

Deliveries to launch customers are scheduled for Q1 2026, giving airlines time to finalise fit-outs and certification details. Safran Seats — the cabin interiors arm of Safran — and Acumen did not disclose specific airline seat quantities or configuration plans beyond the ANA debut.

For frequent flyers and crew, Room FX represents another push toward private, hotel-like business cabins on twin-aisle jets. The move follows wider industry trends where airlines and suppliers prioritize passenger privacy, connectivity-ready designs and lighter, recycled materials to support sustainability goals.
