CBP will implement a San Diego border pause—briefly stopping northbound traffic at major land ports at 5:46 a.m. PT on September 11, 2025.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has confirmed it will halt northbound vehicle lanes at four San Diego-area land ports of entry at 5:46 a.m. Pacific time on September 11, 2025. The pause marks the 24th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks and aligns with the moment American Airlines Flight 11 struck the World Trade Center.
The temporary stop will affect San Ysidro, Otay Mesa, Tecate and Calexico West. CBP says normal processing will resume immediately after the moment of remembrance; however, travelers should factor in a brief slowdown during that time.
The pause is intended as a coordinated, respectful observance and is not a security measure or emergency closure. It applies only to northbound traffic into the United States and will be limited to the single minute starting at 5:46 a.m. PT on September 11, 2025.
If you plan to cross northbound that morning, consider delaying travel by 10–15 minutes to avoid any queueing at booths. Commercial carriers and regular commuters should check CBP updates and local traffic advisories on the morning of September 11.
