StarFlight has ordered three Airbus H145 helicopters to upgrade Tasmania’s airborne emergency response, with deliveries due in late 2027.
The Australian operator will base the new H145s in Hobart to support Ambulance Tasmania and Tasmania Police in rapid-response aeromedical, search-and-rescue and law-enforcement missions across the island state. The purchase replaces older aircraft and marks StarFlight’s first deal with Airbus.
The three H145s are scheduled for delivery in late 2027 and will give crews more operational flexibility for missions that need fast access to remote coastlines and rugged inland terrain. The Tasmanian government describes the move as part of a broader modernisation program to boost public safety and rescue capability.
The Airbus H145 is a light twin-engine helicopter widely used in emergency medical services (EMS) and police roles. Operators value it for its cabin space, multi-role adaptability and suitability for short-notice response work—qualities that matter for Tasmania’s varied geography and dispersed communities.
For Tasmanian emergency services, the H145 fleet should cut response times and expand mission capability, while standardising equipment and maintenance. StarFlight’s order signals a notable upgrade in the state’s airborne emergency response as the government modernises its public-safety assets.
