SWISS introduced its Airbus A350 into regular long‑haul rotation with LX52 Zurich–Boston on November 20, 2025.
Swiss International Air Lines (IATA: LX, ICAO: SWR) operated the first intercontinental revenue flight of its new Airbus A350 on November 20, 2025, as flight LX52 from Zurich (ZRH) to Boston (BOS). The aircraft, an Airbus A350 registered HB‑IFA, completed the trip in about eight hours covering 6,027 km.
SWISS A350 service aims to deliver a noticeably quieter cabin, improved fuel efficiency and upgraded passenger comfort compared with the airline’s previous long‑haul equipment, CEO Jens Fehlinger said. The type will gradually replace older widebodies on select long‑haul sectors while also appearing on short‑haul routes in the coming weeks as crew and systems are integrated.
After the Zurich–Boston launch, SWISS plans to deploy the A350 to Montreal next, expanding its transatlantic A350 network. The airline’s pacing of new routes and short‑haul rotations will give crews additional line experience with the type before broader schedule changes.
The Airbus A350 family is known for longer range and lower per‑seat fuel burn compared with older twin‑aisle models; SWISS’s entry of HB‑IFA marks the start of its planned fleet modernisation. Passengers should expect incremental comfort improvements, including reduced cabin noise and updated onboard systems, as the type takes on both intercontinental and short‑haul duties.
Operational rollout will be phased: initial transatlantic rotations like LX52 form the backbone of long‑haul A350 service, while short‑haul allocations in the following weeks will help crews complete training and reliability checks under everyday schedule conditions.
