THE Room FX: Safran & Acumen’s ANA 787-9 Business Seat

Safran Seats and Acumen have unveiled THE Room FX, a modular business class seat created for ANA’s Boeing 787-9.

Aircraft interiors specialist Safran Seats and British design studio Acumen have revealed THE Room FX, a next‑generation business class seat tailored for All Nippon Airways (ANA). The product is developed in the UK and built to bring more privacy, comfort and configurable space to ANA’s Boeing 787-9 long‑haul fleet.

THE Room FX focuses on a modular layout that adapts to passenger needs — from work mode to full lie-flat rest — while maintaining a modern aesthetic and high perceived privacy. Safran Seats handled the engineering and production experience, with Acumen leading the user-centred design and cabin ergonomics.

What THE Room FX means for ANA and 787-9 passengers

ANA will be the launch customer for THE Room FX, integrating the seat into its 787-9 cabins to enhance long-haul service. The design aims to offer clearer sightlines, individual storage, and simplified access, all of which matter on flights where comfort and privacy directly affect the passenger experience.

  • Modular comfort: THE Room FX is designed to switch between work, dine and sleep configurations for better long‑haul adaptability.
  • Privacy-first layout: High panels and personalised zones reduce visual disturbance and create a more private cabin feel.
  • UK design & engineering: Developed in the United Kingdom by Acumen with Safran Seats handling production readiness and certification planning.

The collaboration highlights ongoing innovation in premium cabins as airlines and manufacturers chase incremental gains in passenger experience. For ANA, the move signals investment in product differentiation on key international routes flown by the Boeing 787-9.

Expect more details from Safran Seats, Acumen and ANA as the launch program progresses, including certification milestones and a timeline for aircraft retrofits or new deliveries.
